Break Glass Units

“Break glass” refers to a traditional method of bypassing security controls that would have normally guarded a system or service. This type of safety feature is listed as a requirement in New York’s Fire Code as early as 1915. These traditional break-glass barriers were previously used to prevent accidental use and were required to offer emergency exits from buildings when required. Resettable break-glass units have superseded the traditional break-glass access control unit by simply allowing a plastic barrier to be slid away and the emergency button pressed. This removes the cost of replacement glass and makes for a safer environment for an emergency access control unit.
